Configure ChangeMyIP WireGuard on iPhone and iPad

Learn how to import and activate ChangeMyIP's WireGuard configuration on iOS using the official WireGuard app for secure, system-wide VPN routing.

iOS WireGuard Privacy/Anonymity

Overview

ChangeMyIP provides WireGuard configs for fast, modern VPN connections. This guide shows you how to set up WireGuard on your iPhone or iPad using the official WireGuard app, so all your device traffic routes through ChangeMyIP.

Prerequisites

  • A ChangeMyIP subscription with WireGuard access.
  • An iPhone or iPad running iOS 14 or later.
  • The WireGuard app installed from the App Store.

Steps

  1. Generate a WireGuard Configuration in ChangeMyIP Log in to your ChangeMyIP dashboard. Navigate to the WireGuard section and create a new configuration. Select your desired server location (country/city). Download the generated .conf file or copy its contents. It will look similar to:

    [Interface]
    PrivateKey = your_private_key
    Address = 10.0.0.2/32
    DNS = 1.1.1.1

    [Peer]
    PublicKey = server_public_key
    Endpoint = wireguard.changemyip.com:51820
    AllowedIPs = 0.0.0.0/0, ::/0

    Note: Do not share this file; it contains your private key.

  2. Install the WireGuard App Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, search for WireGuard, and install the official app by WireGuard Development Team. It is free.

  3. Import the Configuration There are two ways to import:

    • Via File: Save the .conf file to your Files app, then open the WireGuard app. Tap + > Create from file or archive and select the file.
    • Via Clipboard: Copy the configuration text. Open WireGuard, tap + > Create from clipboard. After import, you may rename the tunnel for clarity (e.g., "ChangeMyIP – US").
  4. Activate the Tunnel In the WireGuard app, toggle the switch next to your new tunnel to connect. The first time, iOS will ask for permission to add a VPN configuration; tap Allow. Enter your device passcode if prompted. Once connected, the WireGuard icon appears in the status bar.

  5. Verify Your Connection Open Safari and visit an IP checking site like IPLeak.net or WhatIsMyIP.com. The IP address should match the ChangeMyIP server location you selected. You can also check that DNS requests are routed through the tunnel by looking for the expected DNS server.

  6. Manage and Switch Locations To change location, generate a new configuration in the ChangeMyIP dashboard, import it as a new tunnel, and activate it. You can keep multiple tunnels and switch between them in the WireGuard app.

Troubleshooting

  • Tunnel fails to connect: Ensure the Endpoint address and port are correct. Some networks block UDP; try a different port if ChangeMyIP provides alternatives. Also, verify that your device has an active internet connection.
  • No internet after connecting: Check that AllowedIPs is set to 0.0.0.0/0, ::/0 to route all traffic. If you only need specific apps, adjust accordingly, but for full anonymity, keep it as is.
  • DNS leaks: By default, the DNS setting in the config routes DNS through the tunnel. If you removed it, add a trusted DNS server like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
  • Private key errors: If you see an error about the private key, re-download the configuration from ChangeMyIP; the file may be corrupted.

Summary

You have successfully configured ChangeMyIP WireGuard on your iPhone or iPad. This setup provides a fast, encrypted VPN connection that hides your real IP and secures your traffic. Remember to keep your configuration file private and disconnect when not needed to save battery.
