How to Set Up IPRoyal HTTP Proxies on iOS Wi-Fi for Privacy-Focused Browsing
Configure IPRoyal residential, ISP, or datacenter HTTP proxies on iPhone or iPad using the built-in Wi-Fi manual proxy settings. Includes credentials, authentication, testing, and troubleshooting.
Overview
This guide shows you how to set up IPRoyal HTTP proxies on an iPhone or iPad by using the built-in Wi-Fi manual proxy settings. This is the fastest way to route Safari and other apps that respect the iOS system proxy through an IPRoyal residential, ISP, or datacenter endpoint.
iOS does not provide a global SOCKS5 proxy option in Wi-Fi settings. For SOCKS5, use a SOCKS5 configurator app. This tutorial focuses on the HTTP proxy method, which works with IPRoyal HTTP endpoints.
Before you begin
- An active IPRoyal proxy plan.
- Your IPRoyal HTTP proxy host, port, username, and password from the IPRoyal dashboard.
- An iPhone or iPad connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to configure.
- A basic understanding that iOS applies the proxy only to the selected Wi-Fi network.
Steps
-
Get your IPRoyal proxy credentials.
- Sign in to the IPRoyal dashboard.
- Open the proxy plan you want to use.
- Locate the HTTP proxy endpoint details.
- Copy the proxy host, port, username, and password.
- If your plan supports location or session selection, choose the desired option before copying the credentials.
-
Choose the right IPRoyal proxy type.
- Residential — useful for general privacy and location testing where the IP may rotate.
- ISP — useful when you need a stable IP that remains consistent across sessions.
- Datacenter — useful for speed and simple HTTP tasks.
- Use the credentials for the proxy type you selected.
-
Open the Wi-Fi proxy settings on iOS.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the info button next to the connected Wi-Fi network.
- Scroll to Configure Proxy.
- Tap Manual.
-
Enter the IPRoyal HTTP proxy details.
- Server: paste the IPRoyal proxy host.
- Port: paste the IPRoyal proxy port.
- Authentication: turn on if IPRoyal requires a username and password.
- Username: paste your IPRoyal username.
- Password: paste your IPRoyal password.
- Tap Save.
-
Verify the proxy connection.
- Open Safari and visit an IP lookup page.
- Confirm that the public IP address and location match the IPRoyal proxy you selected.
- If the page fails to load, re-check the server, port, and authentication details.
- You can also verify the same endpoint from a computer with
curl:
curl -x http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@PROXY_HOST:PORT https://httpbin.org/ipReplace
USERNAME,PASSWORD,PROXY_HOST, andPORTwith your IPRoyal credentials. This confirms the endpoint works before you troubleshoot iOS. -
Turn the proxy off when you are done.
- Return to Settings > Wi-Fi > your network > Configure Proxy.
- Tap Off to return to a direct connection.
- iOS stores proxy settings per Wi-Fi network, so you may need to repeat these steps on other networks.
Troubleshooting
- Safari does not load any pages: Double-check the server, port, username, and password. Toggle Configure Proxy to Off and back to Manual.
- Authentication keeps failing: Confirm that you are using the HTTP proxy username and password, not your IPRoyal account password.
- Some apps ignore the proxy: iOS system proxy settings are not enforced for every app. Apps with their own networking stack or certificate pinning may bypass the proxy.
- HTTPS errors: The proxy must support HTTP CONNECT for HTTPS traffic. If TLS errors appear, verify the endpoint and port with IPRoyal support.
- SOCKS5 does not work in Wi-Fi settings: iOS Wi-Fi manual proxy does not support SOCKS5. Use a SOCKS5 configurator app instead of entering a SOCKS5 port here.
- Captive portals fail: Disable the proxy before joining a public Wi-Fi captive portal, then re-enable it after signing in.
- VPN conflicts: Turn off any active VPN while testing. A VPN and a proxy can conflict with each other.
- Slow speeds: Try a different IPRoyal location or a datacenter endpoint if your plan includes one.
Summary
You set up IPRoyal HTTP proxies on iOS by entering the proxy host, port, and authentication details in the Wi-Fi manual proxy settings. After saving, verify the connection with an IP lookup page, and use the proxy only on the networks where you need it. For SOCKS5, use a dedicated configurator app because iOS Wi-Fi settings do not support SOCKS5.
