Overview
This tutorial describes a practical SEO monitoring workflow using ChangeMyIP proxies on Windows. ChangeMyIP offers datacenter and residential proxies across 40+ countries, 300+ cities, and 1000+ subnets, which can help you view localized search results. You will configure a browser or proxy manager to use ChangeMyIP endpoints and verify the visible location before collecting ranking data.
Steps
- Log in to ChangeMyIP and select proxy endpoints for the countries or cities you need to monitor. Note the host, port, protocol, username, and password.
- Decide whether to use HTTP/HTTPS or SOCKS5. Both are supported by ChangeMyIP. HTTP works with most browser proxy extensions, while SOCKS5 can be useful for per-app routing.
- On Windows, install a proxy manager such as Proxifier or a browser extension that supports manual proxy configuration.
- Add a ChangeMyIP endpoint for the first target location.
- Create a separate browser profile for each search market. This keeps cookies, language, and cache isolated.
- Configure the browser profile to use the ChangeMyIP endpoint. If the browser does not support authenticated proxies directly, route it through Proxifier or another local proxy manager.
- Open an IP-check page and confirm the exit IP matches the intended ChangeMyIP country or city.
- Set the search engine's region or language settings to match the target market, if the search engine supports it.
- Run the search query and record the ranking position, URL, and timestamp. Note that personalization can still affect results.
- For each additional market, switch the ChangeMyIP endpoint and repeat the process in its own browser profile.
- Rotate endpoints between checks if your ChangeMyIP plan includes rotating IPs, but keep a consistent profile for comparable results.
- Export or log the data. Avoid sending automated queries too quickly, and follow the search engine's terms of service.
