Overview
This tutorial explains how to route iOS Wi-Fi traffic through a ChangeMyIP HTTP proxy. ChangeMyIP offers datacenter and residential proxies over HTTP/HTTPS and other protocols. iOS includes a Manual Proxy option for Wi-Fi networks, which works with HTTP proxies that use host, port, and optional authentication. Not all iOS apps honor the system Wi-Fi proxy, so test each app you need.
Steps
- Sign in to ChangeMyIP and copy the HTTP proxy host, port, username, and password for your chosen location.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap the information icon next to the Wi-Fi network you are connected to.
- Scroll down to Configure Proxy and tap Manual.
- Enter the ChangeMyIP server in the Server field.
- Enter the ChangeMyIP port in the Port field.
- Turn on Authentication if your ChangeMyIP endpoint requires it, then enter your ChangeMyIP username and password.
- Tap Save in the top-right corner.
- Open Safari and visit an IP-check page. If the page shows the ChangeMyIP IP, the proxy is active for traffic that respects the iOS Wi-Fi proxy.
- Test the apps you plan to use. If an app ignores the proxy, check whether it has its own proxy settings or use a different client that supports proxy configuration.
- To change location, return to the Wi-Fi proxy settings and enter a different ChangeMyIP endpoint.
- To disable the proxy, set Configure Proxy back to Off.
