Overview
This tutorial explains how to use ChangeMyIP Shadowsocks endpoints on Windows. ChangeMyIP supports Shadowsocks alongside HTTP, SOCKS5, Trojan, DNS, and WireGuard. A Shadowsocks client creates a local SOCKS5 proxy that Windows apps can use. You will need the Shadowsocks server details from your ChangeMyIP account.
Steps
- Log in to ChangeMyIP and locate the Shadowsocks server host, port, password, and encryption method for your endpoint.
- Confirm that your ChangeMyIP plan includes Shadowsocks. If the protocol is not listed for your endpoint, choose another protocol supported by your plan.
- Download a reputable Shadowsocks Windows client from its official project page.
- Install and launch the client.
- Add a new server profile.
- Enter the ChangeMyIP server address, port, password, and encryption method exactly as shown in your account.
- Save the profile and select it.
- Start the Shadowsocks client. It will normally listen on a local SOCKS5 port such as 1080. Check the client for the exact local port.
- Configure Windows or individual apps to use the local Shadowsocks SOCKS5 proxy at 127.0.0.1 and the client's local port.
- Test the connection with a browser or
curl --socks5-hostname 127.0.0.1:1080 https://ifconfig.me. - Verify that the IP shown matches the ChangeMyIP endpoint.
- If it fails, confirm the server details, password, encryption method, and local port. Restart the client after changes.
