How to Configure ProxyScrape Datacenter Proxies on macOS
Point macOS system traffic at ProxyScrape datacenter proxies using the built-in HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS proxy settings, then verify the exit IP from Safari and the terminal.
Overview
ProxyScrape datacenter proxies are built for speed and stable long-term uptime rather than residential IP diversity, which makes them a good fit for uptime checks, performance testing, and scraping targets that do not block datacenter ranges. macOS lets you route system traffic through an HTTP, HTTPS, or SOCKS proxy from Network settings, and individual command-line tools can be pointed at the same endpoint independently.
ProxyScrape supports the HTTP and SOCKS5 protocols and offers both pay-as-you-go and flat monthly billing. You will need the host, port, and credentials shown in your ProxyScrape dashboard.
Steps
-
Write down your endpoint details. In the ProxyScrape dashboard, note the proxy host, the port used for HTTP/HTTPS traffic, the port used for SOCKS5 traffic (they are often different), and your username and password. Keep these in a password manager rather than a plain text file.
-
Open the proxy settings. Go to Apple menu → System Settings → Network, select the active interface (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), click Details…, and switch to the Proxies tab.
-
Configure HTTP and HTTPS. Enable Web Proxy (HTTP) and Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS), enter the host in the Server field and the HTTP port in the Port field, then click Authentication… and enter your ProxyScrape username and password so macOS stores it in the keychain. Click OK.
-
Optionally configure SOCKS. Enable SOCKS Proxy and enter the SOCKS5 host and port. macOS provides no username/password fields for the SOCKS proxy — it is host and port only. If your ProxyScrape SOCKS5 endpoint requires authentication, supply the credentials inside the application (for example
curl --socks5-hostname HOST:PORT -U USER:PASS) or route that app through a proxy manager such as Proxifier. -
Apply the settings. Click OK, then Apply. Safari and other apps that honour system proxy settings will now use ProxyScrape.
-
Verify from the terminal and the browser. Terminal tools read proxy environment variables rather than the system settings, so test explicitly:
curl -x "http://USER:PASS@HOST:PORT" https://ipinfo.io/ipThen open
https://ipinfo.io/ipin Safari — the address shown should be the ProxyScrape exit IP, not your own. -
Exclude local traffic. In the same Proxies pane, add entries such as
localhost,*.local, and your LAN ranges to Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains so internal services are not sent through the proxy. -
Troubleshoot common errors. An HTTP
407means the credentials or the authentication type are wrong; a connection timeout usually means the HTTP and SOCKS ports were swapped;Could not resolve proxymeans the host name is misspelled. Confirm the endpoint withcurlbefore debugging individual apps.
